SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN TV) – The gender studies program will soon be eliminated from the school. The Herald-Tribune reports 38-year-old Nick Clarkson had been an assistant professor at New College of Florida in the Gender Studies department since 2018.

Before that, he was a postdoctoral associate studying gender, sexuality and feminist studies at Duke University. More than a third of New College’s faculty have left.

The program’s planned abolishment is the latest controversial move by the conservative board appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis. The board eliminated the college’s diversity department, fired an LGBTQ+ librarian and denied tenure to five professors.

In a resignation letter, Clarkson says, “You can’t keep your kids from being gay or trans. You can only make them hate you and themselves.”
