PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (SNN TV) – A celebration of life takes place this week for Charlotte County’s K9 Copper.

The canine who located 24 missing people in three years died August 13. His partner Cpl. Steven Sella rushed him to the vet for an emergency surgery. Copper survived, but then eventually passed while in recovery.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said K9 Copper joined the agency in March 2020. He was rescued from the Animal Welfare League. He was known for his oversized ears and big eyes.

The celebration of his life and service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Punta Gorda at 7474 Utilities Road.

Cpl. Sella wrote on a Facebook post, “You made dad proud! Until we meet again buddy, fly high!”
