“You have to believe and you have to understand it’s really really important to support them. They need all the support they can get,” said Blue Knights motorcycle rider, Martin Gauthier.

Gauthier drove in the second annual “Old Soldiers and Sailors Parade.” He’s riding in remembrance of all who have served and are currently serving.

“If we didn’t have the veterans, we wouldn’t have the kind of world that we have today,” said Gauthier.

The City of Anna Maria Mayor, Dan Murphy is an army veteran.

“The Veterans are the ones who have preserved our democracy and have kept our country free,” said Murphy. “That’s what’s special. That’s what’s important.”

Murphy says it’s important to honor the families too.

“With every veteran the most important person in their life is either your spouse or your significant other as well as your family,” said Murphy. “ That what really makes you be able to hold on during those tough times.”

Dr. Carl Voyles served as a Navy doctor for 30 years. He and his wife Joan drove in the parade.

“I am very proud of him and what he accomplished and the stories of things that happened,” said Voyles.

Voyle was thankful to see Suncoast high school bands march alongside veterans.

“I hope it inspires the youth to get involved with the military. It’s a great life and important part of our community,” said Voyles.
