SARASOTA – Firefighters at the Sarasota County Fire Department Station 11 spent their Thanksgiving at work. But that didn’t stop them from having a warm meal.

The firefighter’s families came over to the station to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast. Prepared with all the essentials such as turkey, ham and mashed potatoes no one left on empty stomach.

Battalion Chief James Byrd says this is a tradition held in the fire services. “Its tradition in the fire service your family comes first and its just the bonding of firefighter our family, friends and it’s no different than you at home bonding with your family,” said Byrd. “This is our family this is our work family and so we bring our family into our work family.”

Firefighters also said goodbye to one of their own who will be retiring soon while enjoying a holiday feast as a family.
