SARASOTA – Just before noon Saturday the Sarasota Police Headquarters was placed under a brief lock down after receiving a suspicious package.

More than a dozen first responders showed up on scene.

Officials say a Suncoast resident received a suspicious package at her home that was taped oddly and had a white powdery substance.

She then brought the package to headquarters to report it. A hazmat crew arrived to test the powdery substance.

“Really we would encourage folks that they receive a suspicious package or something that doesn’t seem right call 9-1-1 instead of bringing it to headquarters,” says Genevieve Judge, Public Information Officer, City of Sarasota.

Firefighters tested the powdered and determined it was unbleached flour.
