SARASOTA – The Sarasota Police Department thanks two McDonald’s employees who helped officers during an investigation Monday morning.

Early Monday morning Sarasota Police officers say they were called to investigate a DUI crash. That’s when officers discovered two young girls in the back seat – and when McDonald’s employees stepped in.

“The big deal to me was that, you know they took their time and did everything they could to take care of those kids and that was impressive,” says Richard Greene.

Greene was one of the officers on scene of a DUI crash near the 700 block of South Washington Blvd. According to an arrest report officers detained 32-year-old Bret Clark of Myakka City.  The report states officers found his two daughters in the backseat.

“They discovered that there was a four year old girl and an eight year old girl, they were in the back of the vehicle,” says Greene.

What officers learned next, surprised them. “We discovered that they had not eaten and they hadn’t had the opportunity to use the restrooms,” he says.

That’s when Officer Greene says two McDonald’s employees at the end of their shift reopened the restaurant to lend a helping hand. “I explained the circumstances to them and as soon as I did they couldn’t be more helpful.”

Officer Greene says the two employees opened the kitchen and gave the two girls anything they wanted to eat.

“To see people stepping up like that you know they were at the end of their shift, and they wanna go home too just like anybody else, soon as they heard what was going on they immediately went into action,” he says.

McDonald’s was not available for a comment but officer Greene says the employees went above and beyond – and didn’t even let the officer pay for the meal.

“There are good citizens everywhere, and this happens a lot and it doesn’t always come out. And I’m glad these two employees did something special   and its getting out there and people know about it,” says Greene.

The girls were released to family members and the driver is facing charges of DUI and child neglect.
