SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) – Monday marks 22 years since the terror attacks of September 11th, where nearly three-thousand people were killed after four planes were hijacked and used as weapons.

Tributes and memorial services are planned, as our nation carries on the promise to “never forget.” 

Here is a list of some local events happening on Monday:

SARASOTA/MANATEE COUNTIES:

-A 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held at Patriots Park (800 Venetia Bay Blvd., Venice) from 11 a.m. to noon.

-State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota will host their 11th annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at SCF Venice (8000 South Tamiami Trail at the southeast parking flagpoles), and 9 to 10 a.m. at SCF Bradenton (5840 26th Street West at the south entrance flagpole on 60th Ave. W. near the Library and Learning Center, Building 3).

-Miniature Flag Planting Tribute at 9:15 a.m. at the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus (8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota). Students, faculty, staff and other volunteers will plant 2,977 miniature United States flags in the campus courtyard to commemorate those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks.

-USF Sarasota-Manatee’s annual 9/11 Remembrance Event at the Sarasota National Cemetary (Patriot Plaza, 9810 S.R. 72, Sarasota) at 8:30 a.m. The event will feature speeches, patriotic music, a moment of silence and a 21-gun salute. Click here to RSVP.

-9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at Pioneer Park (101 S Orange Ave, Englewood, FL 34223).

-Patriot Day Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. at North Port Fire Rescue Station 81 (4980 City Center Blvd.).
