SARASOTA – Sarasota County Sheriff’s responded to calls of shots fired in Nokomis off Florence St. and W. Marland Ct.

“Patrol deputies responded to the area to a report of gunshots being fired,” said Lieutenant Vince Mayer.

The call came in shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday night. Several first responders were on scene talking to witnesses. According to Lieutenant Vince Mayer multiple shots were fired and one person resulted being injured.

“Made contact with several subjects in the street. One of the subjects has sustained a gunshot wound and that subject has been transported to the local hospital for treatment,” said Mayer

Witnesses say they saw a man run from the scene and hide in nearby home. One man was seen detained by deputies and placed in the back of a Sheriff’s car.

“At this time it’s in the early stages of the shooting investigation and we have detectives on scene who will follow up with the investigation,” said Mayer.

The victim shot was bay flighted to a local hospital no information on the person has been released at this time. No further information is available at this time.
