SARASOTA – A man loses control of his car and crashes following medical episode in North Port.
North Port police responded to the crash on Tamiami Trail and Pan American Boulevard shortly after one Thursday afternoon.
Officers say the man struck multiple light posts along Tamiami trail starting on Ortiz Boulevard, before coming to a complete stop when he hit a TECO gas line. According to officers people began to call 9-1-1 after they observed the car driving erratically.
“If you see something say something. Call us immediately let us know what is going on so we can disperse officers to that area,” said Officer Scott Guzman. “One of our officers overheard what was happening and started driving towards our jurisdictional line, and actually intercepted this vehicle and attempted to stop it prior to these crashes.”
Parts of Tamiami Trail were closed for 45 minutes while officers investigated the crash. The driver is expected to be alright and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
