SARASOTA – If Wednesday felt abnormally hot to you, there’s a good reason: a record high was broken at the Sarasota-Bradenton airport. The high soared to 99 degrees, above the previous 97 degree record.

It felt even hotter than 99 due to the high humidity. Meteorologist Marco La Manno tells us that the “feels like” temperature — the heat index — was near 110 degrees.

The 99 degree record high came within 1 degree of the highest recorded temperature here for the month of June. June temperatures have reached 100 degrees twice before, on June 18 and June 30 in 1998.

99 is one degree shy of an all-time June record of 100.
