SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN TV) – New College of Florida sent a cease and desist letter to a platform run by several ex-students and campus leaders.

The Herald-Tribune reports the new platform is Alt New College, established a few weeks ago as “an online institute to support the academic freedom of faculty and students following the hostile takeover of New College of Florida.”

The college claimed the organization infringed on the “New College” trademark.

Law firm Malloy & Malloy said in the cease-and-desist letter to remove any mention of “New College” or “Alt New College” from its website or any other materials. The letter said the organization has until Oct. 6 to comply before legal action is taken.

New College has sparked controversy since Governor Ron DeSantis began a conservative transformation of the school this year.

Alt New College representatives were not immediately available to comment to the Herald-Tribune.
