ENGLEWOOD, Fla. (SNN TV) – A hodgepodge of hurricane debris from Hurricane Ian in 2022 was turned into a sculpture.

On the anniversary of Hurricane Ian, residents gathered at Englewood Beach to witness the unveiling of this artwork gifted by the Leadership Englewood Class of 2023.

Charlotte County Government wrote in a Facebook post that it’s meant to symbolize the community’s resilience in the face of adversity.

The county writes, “After the storm, we came together to rebuild, renew, and restore. We’ve turned trash into treasure, thanks to our incredible community and supporters. This sculpture will stand as a lasting symbol of our community’s strength.”

Ian made landfall just south of Boca Grande with max sustained winds at 150 miles per hour. It’s responsible for 150 deaths in Florida, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Florida since Hurricane Michael in 2018.
