SARASOTA – It’s a time to relax, have a few drinks, and party ahead of the largest Sarasota Powerboat race in history.

The Kickoff Party to the annual offshore race looks to amaze spectators but most importantly raise money for charity. “Today is the kickoff for the whole July 4th weekend and the big race weekend. This is one of the biggest fundraisers of the entire festival,” said festival director Lucy Nicandri.

Guest enjoyed the tropical atmosphere with food, drinks and live music perfect for a summer evening on the Suncoast.

Local Powerboat racer Dan Lawrence has been hitting the water every day practicing with his team determined to bring home the victory. “It’s been great, this is the biggest event that we’ve had in Sarasota since 2005,” said Lawrence. “We’ve got over 70 teams from around the world as far as New Zealand and Australia coming here.”

Nadine Schippers, at Spotlight Graphics, is one of the sponsors for this year race. She says she’s a part of the festival because of what Suncoast Charities for Children does for the kids.

“It means everything to the kids, that’s what we’re here for. We’re here to sponsor the kids and have a good time,” said Schippers.

The fun doesn’t end here. There are several events taking place this Fourth of July weekend. All leading up to the Powerboat Offshore race on Sunday July 7th at Lido Beach. Races start at 10 a.m.
