BRADENTON – The crash happened on 26th St W and Cortez Road just after 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

Florida Highway Patrol says 37-year-old Ronald Bowens was driving north on 26th St with his two children in the car. That’s when the pedestrian began to cross the street and was hit by Bowens car.

The pedestrian was transported to Blake Medical where he was pronounced dead. State Trooper Kenn Watson says the pedestrian did not have the right of way.

“If you’re going to be walking within the roadway us your crosswalks,” said Trooper Watson. “In this instance he did not have the right away we want to make that clear. But the bottom line is there are many vulnerable users out there, and as drivers we need to pay to them especially under the cover of darkness.”

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released at this time. Now word on if Bowens will face any charges.
