ST. PETERSBURG – The viral get up dance challenge reaches the Suncoast as staff and patients at John Hopkins dance the day away.

Nurses at John Hopkins in St. Petersburg were challenged by the seventh south cancer and blood institute to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.

Patients, nurses and the Tampa Bay Lighting’s Thunderbug joined in on the fun. Renee Bishop a registered nurse says they will always answer any challenge to keep raising awareness of childhood cancer.

“It’s amazing how dancing can bring these kids out of their shells. They’re here sometimes for not so pleasant treatment and they can be here for a few hours or days, every month for years sometimes,” said Bishop. “So when they can kinda break out of their shell and dance, and not only dance but laugh with us or at us at our funny antics, it’s great to see them – just to bring a smile on their face it’s amazing.”

The nurses say they are now challenging environmental services at John Hopkins for the next #GetUp Challenge.
