MANATEE COUNTY – A 5–vehicle crash on southbound U.S. 301 approaching 63 Ave East, leaves 1 woman dead and 2 people with serious injuries. Troopers say, it appears a service van was speeding did not stop for traffic and struck the back of a Chevy truck. The Chevy then struck a Toyota, the Toyota hit a Mustang and the Mustang hit the Dodge.
The driver of the Chevy truck, a 40-year-old woman, died at the scene. The two individuals from the Toyota car were taken to Blake Medical Hospital.
Trooper Kenn Watson says the kinetic force caused the Chevy truck to turn over.
“The vehicle, the one that was struck in the center, the truck, was sandwiched between two additional vehicles,” Trooper Kenn Watson said. “And, you have your at-fault vehicle, the van, still moving. All of that kinetic force is still moving forward, which then turned that car around.
U.S. 301, south of 53 Ave all the way to 63rd was down for several hours. The investigation is still ongoing.
