“Christmas Eve Day for us is maybe the greatest day of the year,” Dale Vollrath said. “It is a day of joy and thanksgiving and appreciation for the world we have and all that he’s given us.  So, it’s just a privilege, even on Christmas Day, to be able to think of others. And that’s what it’s all about.”

Volunteers from different groups, churches, and businesses participate in the annual fundraiser.

Some volunteers even juggle. Circus performer and also a Salvation Army Alum, Shane Hansen, volunteers his time adding o his own twist.

Salvation Army hopes last-minute shoppers hear the bells and give a little, to help those who can’t help themselves.

Captain Andy Bailey is a Pastor and Core Officer of Center of Hope at Salvation Army, who says it all about helping those in need.

“In any given night we have over 200 people in our building here,” Captain Andy Bailey said. “And so we need the help of our community to help these other people.”

Salvation Army helps provide shelters, meals and a four-month recovery program through fundraising efforts such as these.

“We feel like we really are obligated to try and make our place a better place,” Vollrath said. “And do whatever we can to help people, especially those who are less fortunate, which the Salvation Army does so much of.”

“We have a lot of people hurting in our community and they need our help.” Captain Bailey said. “So, that’s what the kettles are all about.”
