LAKEWOOD RANCH (SNN-TV) – Ava Krug, the granddaughter of ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale, made her collegiate intentions official today, signing to play tennis at Duke University.

Ava is a Blue-Chip recruit, touted as being the 7th ranked tennis player in the 2024 class. She’ll join her twin brothers, Connor and Jake in Durham, as they both are juniors at Duke, also playing tennis.

Surrounded by family and former coaches today at the Tennis Center at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, Ava’s father and former Notre Dame quarterback, Thomas Krug, detailed the sentiment of Ava signing her letter where her formative tennis years were spent.

“The memories are strong here. We have photos where she can barely hold a racquet and she’s on the court playing and hitting. We spent a lot of our life here, practices and just every day during the week, and weekends. [It was] Tough times, a lot of work but it was great memories too. It’s a perfect place I think for her to do it today.” – Thomas Krug, Ava’s Father & Former Notre Dame QB

Having visited universities like Texas, Virginia, Florida and North Carolina before ultimately choosing Duke, Ava reflected on the journey that was an abundance of riches in terms of the collegiate interest.

“It was just amazing to see throughout this whole recruiting process that it was all worth it. [It] Just gives you a sense of confidence also. I feel like it pushed me to be a better tennis player as well and I’m just so excited, and so grateful that all these coaches were reaching out to me. I’m so grateful to Coach [Jamie] Ashworth for giving me the opportunity to be apart of the Duke family.” – Ava Krug, Duke Tennis Commit

Ava plans to pursue degrees in both economics and political science before entering Law School.
