SARASOTA – Nearly 100 supporters of Sanders met at Payne Park to rally the troops and cast their votes ahead of the upcoming Florida Primaries scheduled for March 17th.

The early voters gathered Sunday afternoon encouraging other park goers to register to vote. Activist Claire Snyder-Hall with Progressive Sarasota says the time for Sanders supporters to unite is now.

“It’s very important to get out to vote for Bernie Sanders because there’s too much at stake right now. We’re at a crisis situation in our democracy where we have people talking about civil war and how democracy dies,” said Snyder-Hall. “So we need to come together with a progressive agenda that’s really going to speak to working people and families across the country and Bernie’s campaign does that.”

The rally hosted several keynote speakers including Board Chair of Our Revolution Larry Cohen who delivered a powerful speech and lead the group to the polls.

“Every vote is critical. Too often people talk about who’s going to win  Florida, the real issue is how many delegates do you get, every vote leads to delegates and that’s the key in every one of these states,” said Cohen. “1991 is the magic number that’s the majority of the delegates, in this case there will be a first ballot nominee. And so the key for Bernie and for me is that every delegate here counts.”

The group marched through Payne Park before ending up at the Sarasota County Supervisor of Election Office in Sarasota to cast their votes.
