VENICE – A Suncoast couple captured the rare beauty of two Right Whales off the coast of Venice.

Kathy Powell and her husband Randy spotted the whales six miles west of the Venice Jetty on Saturday.

The National Geographic says Right Whales are the rarest of all large whales, with only about 400 existing in the world.

These endangered mammals are usually found in the coastal waters of Atlantic Ocean.

They’re categorized as “baleen whales” and feed on shrimp–like krill and small fish and can weigh nearly 70 tons.

Two were spotted in gulf waters back in 2018.  It’s not known if this is the same pair.
