SARASOTA – In the middle of a global health pandemic Sunocast residents opened hearts and wallets all for a good cause.
The 2020 Giving Challenge showed the generosity of the Suncoast as the results tallies more than $18 million was raised this year.
President & CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County Roxie Jerde says she was nearly moved tears when the final results came in. She says it’s heartwarming to see the community come together and donate, especially at a time when some donors may be going through difficult times of their own.
“We truly believe each of us has the potential to support another person, a cause, our community,” said Jerde. “You had a chance to join in with your fellow citizens and help your neighbors. And show as we come together we truly are stronger together as one community.”
Jerde says more than 58,000 donors made a contribution in this year’s challenge with nearly 700 nonprofits participating. She says the final result, after all money donated will be released in about six weeks.
