CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (SNN TV) – More than 250 Suncoast seniors got a visit from Santa a little early. Or should we say a visit from the Senior Friendship Centers?

The group announced it distributed over 250 “Holiday Healthy at Home Gift Bags” to homebound seniors in Charlotte and Desoto counties.

The bags aim to address essential needs during the holiday season, including necessities such as shampoo, laundry detergent, blankets, and toothpaste.

SCF started this program in 2017 to address challenges that older adults face; they cited seniors’ fixed incomes as a reason that essential items can become luxuries.

The AARP said one in four seniors won’t see family around the holidays and more than 1 in 10 report experiencing extreme loneliness this time of year.

Senior Friendship Centers says their mission is “to build vibrant communities by advancing wellness, connection, and enrichment throughout the journey of aging.”
