LAKEWOOD RANCH (WSNN) – Jimmy Kimmel Live surprises a Suncoast nurse during his tribute to frontline workers.

U.S. Navy Reserve Nurse Lt. Rob Guerra from Palmetto works at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

At the beginning of April, he was called in on a 9-month deployment work at the field hospitals in New York to meet the demand of coronavirus cases. He left his wife and two kids in a matter of two days. Turned out, he only had to work at the Javits Convention Center for about two months as New York saw a rapid decline in cases.

He returned to Florida on his birthday, May 12, and had to go into quarantine for two weeks in Jacksonville.

Soon after, Jimmy and Ford surprised him with a brand new F-150 truck with boxes of PPE.

“When I was talking with Jimmy, he had mentioned my family, and then boom, there’s my family in front of my house,” Lt. Guerra said. “And it through for a loop because I was like, how are people at my house recording everything? Before I could process that, they panned over to my driveway and there was a big truck sitting in my driveway with all this PPE for the hospital, it’s just mind-blowing. And totally unexpected.”

Guerra says while the surprise was a very crazy experience, he’s also sincerely grateful to his work family at Lakewood Ranch for the support they gave him. They were all willing to help him while he was stationed in New York and his family at home.

“They said anything you need, let your wife know, give her my number, we’ll go there, we’ll give her some groceries, we’ll get whatever she needs, you know,” ,” Lt. Guerra said. “If she needs us to watch anything, we’ll set up, we’ll take care of it.”

His work family also sent a care package of food, drinks, and toiletries to last him several months. Guerra says while working as a nurse can be trying, especially in times like this, he loves his profession find it to be very rewarding.
