SIESTA KEY – The groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 13 in Siesta Key took place this morning.
The new $5.4 million facility is modeled after station 12 located on Bee Ridge, it will house one fire truck and one rescue.
The original station 13 built-in 1974 was demolished in May.
“This fire station we tore down earlier is now going to be 10,500 square foot fire station. This one again is going to serve the residents and visitors of Siesta Key, but also its part of the system and in that system, the personnel that are out here can respond to the mainland as well as mainland stations can come out here so we work as a system and it works very, very well,” said Sarasota County Fire Chief, Michael Regnier.
The new fire station will be able to withstand a Category 4 storm.
The expected completion for Station 13 is next summer.
