LAKEWOOD RANCH (WSNN) –  Evan Alexander Salon and Spa implements a next-generation facial treatment known as microchanneling.

The general term is skin-needling, a minimally invasive facial treatment using fine needles to puncture the skin to generate new collagen. Microchanneling and microneedling are a form of this.

Procell microchanneling therapy has been around for about a year, but Evan Alexander Salon and Spa therapists just got it about a month ago. Licensed Massage Therapist and Esthetician, Jennifer Gorman, says they use point-two-five millimeter needles to create micro-injuries on the skin.

“We use this contraption here, which is kind of like a gun, and it oscillates back and forth at a fast speed, which creates perforations in the skin. And in doing so, that imitates the body’s natural healing.”

The claim is this form of skin-needling offers less destructive techniques than microneedling, which uses a roller or wand to glide across the skin.

“Sometimes you can create the wrong type of injury where it would actually tear the skin,” Gorman said.

But the Procell Therapy uses a stamp, moving it in all directions on your face.

“From left to right, up and down on the face,” Gorman said. “So we stamp and move a little and stamp. So, it never drags and can’t tear the skin.”

Procell Therapy also uses human growth factors derived from human athletes stem cells, which are a naturally occurring substance in the body stimulating cell growth.

“So, we’re putting those growth factors back in the skin to maximize the healing of the body,” Gorman said.

Gorman claims these growth factors help improve skin firmness and textures.  She says treats acne scars, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, stretch marks and symptoms of Rosacea.

And when it comes to pain, it’s pretty minor. During the process, I felt a little bit of pinching and very minor discomfort, but it wasn’t horrible.

When it comes to recovery, Gorman says it takes 90 minutes of downtime for the perforations to close again.

“So if you really wanted to, you could theoretically put on your makeup in the afternoon, but we do suggest you wait until the following day,” Gorman said.

She says results vary depending on your skin.
