CHARLOTTE COUNTY (WSNN) – Charlotte County School Board is changing the school start date and mandating masks.
Since the coronavirus cases numbers keep trending upward, the school board voted to start school on August 31st instead of August 10th.
Parents now have until August 18 to decide if their child will choose to attend Charlotte Virtual School.
The following recommendation was approved:
“All students, staff and individuals must wear masks and or face coverings on school property to the maximum extent possible effective July 22, 2020 and until further notice. This includes schools, district office buildings and buses.”
“When we saw that the virus had spread here in Charlotte County, it had really peaked,” Charlotte County schools spokesperson, Michael Riley, said. “We thought we need to move this back, because we don’t want any kids coming to school or our staff coming to school when the pandemic has the numbers so high. And it was for the well-being health and well-being of our students and staff.”
The Charlotte county schools Calendar Committee will be revising the school calendar for 2020-2021.
