SARASOTA – Just barely missing the all-time record set last year, July 2020 ties July 2016 for second hottest July on record worldwide. July 2020 was 1.66°F above the 20th average and a mere 0.02°F shy of 2019’s all-time record.
Nine out of the ten hottest Julys worldwide have occurred since 2010 (1998 is the sole exception). The six warmest on record have all occurred since 2015. Here are the Top 10 hottest Julys worldwide:

In the US, it was the 11th hottest on record with most of the July records occurring in the northeast.
Fewer extreme temperatures could be found in the Pacific Northwest and the nation’s interior. Florida recorded its fifth hottest July, but for the Suncoast, it was an all-time record (all numbers come from SRQ).
The last time we had a presidential election, the Suncoast broke two records — hottest July, and hottest month overall. This year, we’ve broken both again. The monthly average in Sarasota-Bradenton was 85.8°F, which surpassed July 2016’s record of 85.4°F. Most of the records came in the form of record warmest lows:
Rarely do we record 80s during the summer months, let alone this many. However, it has become more frequent in recent years. Highs were no slouch either.
