VENICE (WSNN) – A pilot attempting to manually spin a propeller blade, is struck multiple times.
It happened at Venice Municipal Airport at 2:40 p.m. today.
Airport director Mark Cervasio says the pilot was hit while trying to hand prop his single-engine RV–6 plane.
The plane started up and struck him at the wrist and hip, and grazing his head when he fell to the ground.
it then traveled across the taxi lane striking a hangar forcing the plane through its doors.
Cervasio says he’s a regular tenant of the airport and is a really lucky man.
“Hand–propping is not a normal operation; it’s kind of an emergency – last resort operation to get the airplane started. I’ve been here four years, and I don’t ever remember – knock on wood – anything like this ever happening,” Cervasio said.
He was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating the incident.
