SARASOTA – November came and went, and many had the A.C. running more than usual. With an average global temperature 1.75°F above the 20th century average of 55.2°F, November 2020 ranks as the world’s second warmest November on record, behind November 2015 which was 1.82°F above the 20th century average.
10 of the warmest Novembers have all occurred since 2004, with a streak of warmer-than-average Novembers starting in the 1970s. A few of the areas recording cooler Novembers are southwest Asia, much of Canada, and parts of North Africa. However, no area recorded its coolest November.
Closer to home, Florida’s year through November has been its warmest on record, with temperatures running 3°F warmer than average as of the publishing of this article.
On the Suncoast, SRQ recorded its third warmest November on record.
The difference was most noticeable in our lows. Because of the higher humidity, temperatures took longer to cool at night, so our average lows easily hit the 70s for the first half of the month, with nine records tied or broken.
While only one record high was tied at SRQ, highs were mostly warmer-than-average for all counties.
