SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – The demand to get a COVID-19 vaccine is high, but the supply in Sarasota County is low.
The Sarasota Health Department received 3500 doses of the Moderna Vaccine on Monday, and they began distributing about 400 to 500 daily.
Appointments are booking fast, and Health Officer, Chuck Henry says he understands the frustration.
He says he wants to remind you, 37-percent of our population is over the age of 65 which is roughly 150,000 residents.
“We’re asking the public to be patient,” Henry said. “We understand that there’s frustration around the process, but I want to assure everyone that as vaccine flow begins to increase in the next few weeks, they’ll be plenty of opportunity and vaccines to get everyone in.”
The health department plans to make an update about vaccination appointments on Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday.
