SARASOTA – There are few matches in the world of professional wrestling that turn ordinary superstars into legends.
It’s that time of the year again… I’m talking about WrestleMania Season and it all starts in one place the Royal Rumble.
“Be it in the performance center, be it in the Amway with the Thuderdome or in the Tropicana. Every talent on the roster is trying to give the best performance they can,” said Drew McIntyre.
Last years winner knows all too well a win at the Rumble can mean a bigger win at Mania.
“I finally got my opportunity at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania after I’ve been wrestling for 19 years,” said McIntyre.
After nearly two decades in the business, McIntyre climbed to the top of the mountain to capture the coveted WWE Championship; but before he could call himself the champ, he first had to outlast 30 other men in the Royal Rumble.
The rules are simple enough. 30 Superstars compete in the Rumble with a new competitor entering the match every 90 seconds.
You’re eliminated from the match after being tossed out of the ring and both feet touching the ground.
The last Superstar standing is declared the winner and punches their ticket to a championship main event match at the showcase of the immortals.
McIntyre won last year’s Royal Rumble and fulfilled a life-long dream of winning the top prize in the company by conquering the Beast Brock Lesnar.
“No matter what you’re going through – where you’re at in life, how far you fall, how many times you fail. If you work hard enough to look at yourself in the mirror and said I gave it my all and left no stone unturned,” said McIntyre. “Don’t blame anyone else, it’s up to you to make this thing happen – you can do anything. Including me WWE Champion.”
You can watch all the action go down in the Rumble Jan 31st only on the WWE Network. And stay tuned as SNN brings you the latest WWE content leading up to the big day – WrestleMania 37.
