SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – Monday afternoon, the Sarasota County Health Department tells SNN, Florida has allocated one-thousand doses to be distributed in the county this week.

DOH spokesperson, Steve Huard says those one-thousand vaccinations are for first-timers.

Those expecting a second booster shot are being rescheduled to a different location.

Huard says if there’s a delay to the 28-day mark, the second booster shot will still be effective.

“That first dose is going to offer a level of protection around 87-percent,” Huard said. “So that second booster dose really just brings you up to the 90-percentile.”

Huard says they’re working on a non-appointment drive-thru method to get those second doses out, and a new vaccine scheduling system to help those without internet access or computers.

Huard says doh hopes to have an update Tuesday morning on when those one-thousand doses will be released and how.
