BRADENTON (WSNN) – A drag race crash kills a man in Bradenton Friday night.

Manatee County deputies say it happened just before 8:00 pm during a sponsored drag racing event at the Bradenton Motorsports Park.

The sheriff’s report says a vehicle had a malfunction while going extremely fast. As a track employee tried to guide the driver of that malfunctioning car into a dirt pit at the end of the track, the fast-moving car struck him.

EMPS personnel tried saving the employee for about 30 minutes, but the victim died on the scene. Deputies identified him to be Daniel Stone.

The NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) is investigating the vehicle malfunction.
