SARASOTA – Two friends cycling across the U.S. to raise awareness for breast cancer research are close to reaching the end of their nearly 5,000-mile journey.

What started as a passing thought for Timothee Leger and Liam Carr quickly turned into goal both were determined to accomplish.

“What we’re doing is nothing near as difficult as they’ve experienced,” said Leger.

We first met the duo known online as the Pink Snowbirds back in January – as they were half-way through their journey to cycle across the country all to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

A personal cause for both of them.

“I don’t think that we weren’t going to make it – even for a second,” said Carr. “We’re just very dedicated, we’re really sure we’re going to make it to the end.”

Having begun their more than 5,000 mile journey in Portland, Maine on November of last year; the duo plans to complete their ride within the next month or two when they reach San Diego and dip their tires in the Pacific ocean.

But before reaching their end goal the two still have some challenges ahead of them as they prepare to leave Texas and enter Arizona.

“There’s stretches there of over 100 miles – even more that have no service” said Leger. “So for cars make sure you fill up on gas, but for us [it’s] buy more water jugs.”

Though they have some ways to go and challenges to face before crossing their finish line. The Pink Snowbirds have been welcomed in every state they’ve crossed with open arms.

Strangers have offered their homes for the two to rest and recharge. Restaurants have provided them fuel in the form of free meals. And along the way a new member tagged along for the ride.

But in the end the motivation they find to continue is hearing from those affected by cancer itself.

To donate towards the Pink Snowbirds cause you can do so by going to the Pink Fund’s website, which is the nonprofit organization they will be donating the funds they raise.
