PUNTA GORDA – Flood relief money is coming to Punta Gorda.

According to NBC-2, the Boca Grande Boulevard neighborhood experiences severe flooding every rainy season.

But after years of asking the state legislature for money, one million has now been approved.

FEMA designates the area as flood zone A-E, meaning a one percent chance of flooding annually and 26 percent over a 30 year period.

The goal is to install a retention pond.

The estimated cost will be four million dollars, so this one million from the state covered a quarter of it.

Construction is expected to begin in fiscal year 2022.
