VENICE (WSNN) – A Suncoast school becomes a sensation online for its staircase. Millions of eyes are on Venice High School. It’s on known as ‘TikTok High’ after a staircase goes viral from this dance.

Venice High Football player Jayshon Platt is one of the students who kickstarted the trend of dancing in front of the stairs.

“I think it started blowing up when we started recording in our football jerseys,” Platt said.

Many students have posted videos of themselves dancing in front of the stairs. Others have placed themselves in front of greenscreens making it look like they’re there.

As of this report the hashtag #venicehighschool has more than 21 million views on TikTok, and #venicestairs has more than 9 million views.

“It’s just cool to see our little Venice hometown on the map. It’s such a special place, and I just think it’s so cool,” JADA said.

Viral TikTok singer Hannah Wasserman who now goes by ‘JADA’ graduated from Venice High School in 2017.

“Every time I would walk in the stairwell, especially when there was no one else in there, I would always sing in it,” JADA said.

But she never recorded videos there. Platt says since the school went viral, the staircase is always buzzing with activity.

“Every time you go out and use the bathroom, you’ll see somebody at the staircase making a TikTok,” Platt said.

So, what makes this stairwell so special?

“The sun is right there, there’s a big window and it has a place for us to put the phone on, so we just put it on right there and we record.”

That was enough to make this high school get famous. Platt has TikTok videos with nearly 2 million views.

“It’s kind of crazy, but at the same time, I’m focused on football so I don’t let it get to my head,” Platt said.

The Venice High football team plays in the State Championship game on December 18th. While he’s always making moves on the football field, he’s saving some of his best ones for TikTok.

District Spokesman Craig Maniglia was not available to comment on the TikTok trend.
