TAMPA (SNN-TV) – A Stanley Cup rematch took place last night, as the Lightning welcomed the Canadiens to Amalie Arena following the holiday break.

Ondrej Palat scored 36 seconds into overtime after Tampa Bay teammate Corey Perry tied it late in the third period, and the Lightning beat the Montreal Canadiens, 5-4.

It was the first NHL game since the Lightning won 4-3 at Vegas on Dec. 21 in the only game played that night.

It was also the first time the teams played in Florida since Tampa Bay beat the Canadiens last July in Game 5 to win its second consecutive Stanley Cup.

Dozens more were postponed over the past week-plus because of COVID-19 outbreaks and protocols.

Tampa Bay had six players and coach Jon Cooper unavailable in COVID-19 protocols, while Montreal had nine players in protocols.

Up next for the Lightning, they’ll visit in-state rivals, the Florida Panthers on Thursday night at 7pm.
