MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (SNN-TV) – Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled ahead of the Australian Open.

Border officials said Djokovic failed to provide appropriate evidence to meet entry requirements to the country.

The 20-time grand slam champion traveled to the country after receiving a medical exemption, a decision that provoked a backlash among Australians.

Officials say non-citizens who do not hold a valid visa on entry or who have had their visa cancelled — will be detained and removed from the country.

Australia’s Prime Minister — Scott Morrison said quote -– “rules are rules” when it came to cancelling Djokovic’s visa.

The Australian Open is scheduled to start on January 17th.
