SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – The ATP Challenger Tour made its way to the Suncoast yet again this year, for the Sarasota Open, this year with a $14,400 prize up for grabs.
A familiar face made a stop at the courts over the weekend. Dickie V, a day removed from his final chemo treatment, was in attendance for the quarterfinal match-up between Denis Kudla and 8th ranked tennis player, Jack Sock. Prior to the match Vitale delivered the coin flip to begin the evenings festivities.
As for the action, 25-year-old Colombian, Daniel Elahi Galán, walked away with the crown and the top prize of $14,400 at the ATP Challenger Tour event.
Galan took control in the third set of a 2½-hour final on Sunday against Steve Johnson of Orange, California, to win 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 on the clay at the Payne Park Tennis Center.
Galan had a great day serving, notching a total of 16 aces. It was his fourth victory on the ATP Challenger Tour.
