SARASOTA (WSNN) – Sarasota Olympian Jake Ilardi, and his brother Nate spoke to SNN about what it was like to get recognized by the Sarasota City Commission.

Yesterday, May 16th, was proclaimed “Jake & Nate Ilardi Day.”

Jake was a member of the 2020 U.S. Olympic skateboarding team and raised 15K-dollars to install a ramp at Payne Skate Park, and Nate has his own film production company.

While Jake knew he was getting recognized, it came as a surprise for his brother, Nate.

“I thought at first it was going to be me, but then they sent me a separate email on the side saying they wanted to surprise Nate,” Jake said. “So I thought made it even cooler that I got to share it with my brother, Nate.”

“I just want to say thanks to the city for recognizing me and my brother and giving us our own day,” Nate said. “It’s such an honor, so thanks again.”

Both are continuing to help better the community. They’re actively talking with the city and the county to renovate Payne Park and planning to add more skate parks on the Suncoast.
