MANATEE — It is hard enough when you are in high school and are preparing for standardized tests such as the SAT, and ACT. Today’s recipient of our student athlete of the week had to also worry about passing a fitness test.

Saint Stephen’s Senior linebacker and running back, Cam Vining is our first recipient for the month of October. A starter on both the football and basketball teams, Vining is an emotional leader for the Falcons. The captain has registered 85 tackles, including 20 for a loss, and has scampered for 88 yards on 16 carries, finding the end zone twice.

In the fall of 2020, Cam will be heading to West Point, New York, where he will be enrolled in the United States Military Academy, as a cadet. This long process of included a fitness test.

“We had to run a mile, do a bunch of pushups, pullups, all the military stuff you can think of. It has been a long process, but it is almost over and I am ready to get that over with and be a Knight,” Vining said.
