Former tennis coach looking to expand pickleball’s reach

Mark Miller

SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – Mark Miller, a former tennis coach from Chicago, has lived on the Suncoast the last year and half, long enough to see the meteoric rise of pickleball. Mark is looking to shift his tennis expertise to pickleball, but focusing on what he says is an untapped market.

After 18 years of coaching tennis to kids in Chicago, Mark is looking to do the same with pickleball. “Mark Miller’s Munchkin Program” helps children learn a sport from a lifelong coach with a curriculum that invokes socialization, self-esteem, anti-bullying and nutrition. The lessons within the Munchkin program are also simple enough that parents can teach them at home, implementing a “Parent and Me” strategy.

In years past, positive reinforcement from deceased tennis legends, former USTA president Alan Schwartz and IMG Academy patriarch Nick Bolletieri, adds credibility to Mark’s idea of expanding pickleball’s growth to an even younger generation.

“My program is just to expose them [kids] to a sport that is a lifelong sport, and make it fun. I’m not looking to coach the next John McEnroe. It would be nice, but that’s not my intention whatsoever. It’s really for the kids to have fun and that’s what it’s all about.” – Mark Miller
