New College board approves bigger contract for president

SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN TV) – New College of Florida’s board of trustees approved a bigger contract for President Richard Corcoran.

The Herald-Tribune reports the board voted 8-2 to approve a contract that runs through February of 2028 for President Richard Corcoran. It pays $699,999 annually, and with benefits, Corcoran could make up to $1.2 million. He’d have to hit metrics such as surpassing 1,200 students enrolled by his fifth year.

This makes him among the highest-paid university presidents in Florida.

As a comparison, the Gainesville Sun reports University of Florida President Ben Sasse makes $1.3 million after benefits despite UF having about 87 times the number of students.

Corcoran is an ally to Governor Ron Desantis and is working to reshape New College into a conservative Christian school akin to Hillsdale College in Michigan.

Details of the board of trustees meeting were posted on New College’s website.
