MANATEE COUNTY,  Fla. (SNN) — An event bringing in major champions, Hall of Famers and legends in the game of golf is coming to Bradenton.

From Thursday to Sunday, the Concession Golf Club will host the World Champions Cup, expected to attract over 35,000 attendees.

The event is set to become the fourth global team competition on the worldwide golf calendar.

“In a lot of team competitions matches might end two or three holes early. This event is set up to make sure that all events get to the ninth hole,” said Executive Director of the World Champions Cup Jason Langwell.

Sanctioned by the PGA TOUR, the World Champions Cup brings together major golf champions representing Team International, Team Europe and Team USA.

“You’ve got a group of players here that have played in Ryder Cups, Presidents Cups, major championships, and they’re just that competitors. They want to go out and they want to win,” said Langwell. “It’s going to be a real fierce competition.”

Each match will unfold over nine holes, with teams earning points for every hole won.

After three days, the team with the highest point total will win the World Champions Cup.

With so many players, safety is paramount.

On-site physician Dr. Stephen Otte, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and shoulder and elbow specialist with Coastal Orthopedics, will be ensuring the safety of players, caddies, and staff.

“Preparation is kind of the key. It’s kind of always expect the unexpected with these things,” said Dr. Otte.

When it comes to preventing injury, Dr. Otte emphasizes the importance of warming up.

“A lot of people would benefit a lot more from spending their time stretching and loosening their body up,” said Dr. Otte.

Whether you’re a fan of golf or not, Langwell says they have something for you.

“Food trucks and fun interactives as you’re walking into the property, fans can take puts for the chance to earn dollars for charity and so, we’ve got something for you.”
