Women channel their inner warrior through mace fitness on the Suncoast

SARASOTA – It’s a new year and mace fit is offering a new way to train. Women use steel maces and clubs to strengthen their core and do cardio without running.

Steel Mace is a tool that originated in India during medieval times. It was used as a weapon to train wrestlers.

U.S. mace fit coordinator, Frank DeMeo, brought the tool into use today and created this method of training in 2016.

“It’s an unconventional alternative method of training for strength, cardio, muscle endurance, flexibility, mobility, balance, coordination,” said Frank DeMeo.

He launched Warrior Women to get women to start the year off on the right foot.

Valerie Pawlowski, a fitness champ, came all the way from New Jersey to attend this inaugural workshop.

She says it’s an astronomical program and there is nothing else like it.

“It’s not like walking on a treadmill, and being spaced out, you have to know you’re whereabouts,” said Valerie Pawlowski.

The program offers a stimulus for all your body parts, joints, and muscles.  Pawlowski says it’s a great way to prevent injury and rehab people too.

“It presents an opportunity to be able to get the enormous amount of cardio that they can without even ever taking a footstep,” said Pawlowski.

But even so, DeMeo says if you want results, consistency is key.

“And, result follow the work, it’s just that simple. If you want the results, you have to do the work,” said DeMeo. “There’s no magic pill, there’s no celebrity diet, nothing of the hype in smoke and mirrors that come out during this time of year. It’s anything but short term, and if you want long-lasting results, you need to train ongoing.”
