FLORIDA (SNN TV) – With the Supreme Court soon to weigh in on the popular abortion pill mifepristone, what’s the current status of abortion pills, and morning-after pills, in Florida?

Mifepristone is still legal in Florida as long as all other abortion restrictions are observed and the pill is prescribed. Regardless as to what the Supreme Court rules, the morning-after pill, such as Plan B, is not affected. They’re pills you can take up to five days after having sex to reduce the risk of pregnancy.

Mifepristone is a prescription drug that ends pregnancy within 70 days — 10 weeks — of pregnancy without needing surgery.

The FDA approved the pill in 2000, and the Herald-Tribune shared that more than 100 studies over the last 30 years have shown it to be safe.

A Trump-appointed judge suspended the FDA’s approval of the drug while an Obama-appointed judge ordered the FDA not to make any changes. The Biden Administration defended the drug and asked the Supreme Court to step in.
