ST. PETERSBURG (SNN-TV) – Rays shortstop Wander Franco is head back to the IL, and will miss 5-8 weeks following surgery tomorrow on the broken hamate bone in his right hand.

The move to the 10-day IL was made official by Tampa Sunday, one day after he left the game against the Reds after fouling off a 100mph pitch before striking out.

Franco just returned to active duty on June 26th, having spent close to a month on the injured list due to a right quad strain.

Tampa Bay also placed centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier on the 10-day IL with left hip inflammation.

Infielder Jonathan Aranda and outfielder Luke Raley were recalled from Durham to replace Wander and KK on the active roster.
