SARASOTA – Walk up vaccination sites for veterans and civilians are popping up on the Suncoast.

400 Suncoast Vets got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at VFW post 3233

“The VA is visiting our post today, we’re sponsoring an event for them to be able to vaccinate up to 400 people, veterans, spouses, and care givers,” said Post Quartermaster of VFW Post 3233, Peter Beisler.

Beisler says having Bay Pines VA make the trip, helps out the older veterans on the Suncoast

“That don’t drive or they are afraid to drive for an hour and a half to Bay Pines and come back again after being inoculated, some of them are a little bit scared of it,” said Beisler.

Suncoast veteran, Francis Dolan said staff was nothing but nice and helpful

“I’m a little wobbly on my pins and they took me in so I didn’t have to stand and wait, and that was very appreciated,” said Sarasota resident vaccinated at VFW, Francis Dolan.

Another Bradenton Vet and his wife are beyond excited

“I’m ready for the world to remove their masks but you know, one vaccine at a time I guess,” said Bradenton residents vaccinated at VFW, Suzette and Earl Rayner.

And Sarasota Square Mall gave those 18 and older a walk-up Moderna vaccine

“I’m a freshman in college so I’ve kind of lacked that real college experience so I’m excited to really get that hopefully by next semester,” said College student vaccinated at Sarasota Square Mall, Sam Russell.

“Everyone should come and have their vaccine taken because it’s very important, we want this Coronavirus to leave us all,” said Family vaccinated at Sarasota Square Mall, Norma, Doug, and Michael Ardolino.

The Sarasota County Registration System will no longer accept new accounts as the Department of Health transitions to walk-up clinics.
