Miami city commissioner Ken Russell is looking to to take on Marco Rubio for the Florida senate in 2022.

Russell visited the SNN newsroom today as part of an around the state trip to get his name and face out there. He was also here to speak with Suncoast leaders about issues that are important to residents.

“Sarasota county here is about number 12 on our 67 county tour,” says Russell. “I’m a grassroots activist and that’s the only way I know how to do things. I want to go door to door and learn and listen and that’s what I am here for this week in Sarasota county – is to listen to folks and specialists and scientists and elected stakeholders to find out what the issues are.”

Before Russell can take on Rubio for the senate he has to beat Val Demings in the Democratic primary race. Demings is the former police chief of Orlando who many wanted to be the Democratic challenger to Governor Ron Desantis but decided to run for the senate.
