SARASOTA (SNN TV) – Two Sarasota landmarks are now districts of historic significance.
The Sarasota City Commission unanimously voted to give these distinctions to Sarasota Jungle Gardens and the Nate and Muriel Eagle House on April 3.
According to the Herald-Tribune, this gives the properties special protections and an opportunity to apply for a 10-year ad valorem tax exemption.
Sarasota Jungle Gardens was opened in 1939 and has several historic structures including the David B. and Elizabeth G. Lindsay Residency, built around 1940. It now houses the gardens’ café.
The Nate and Muriel Eagle House was built in 1949. Nate Eagle was a circus barker and ringmaster for the Ringling Brothers circus.
